RE: My new 1989 Holiday Rambler Alumilite 26ft

We have a 1989 32' 454 Chevy engine HR Alumalite and it gets no better than 8 and usually 6 mpg day in and day out.

RE: Passport America Input

Most of the tourist spots have restrictions and nearly all restrict use on weekends and any holidays. If you can live with those restrictions it will save you money

RE: RV's and state weigh stations

Stop in Teas and they will run you out laughing. I did at the new weigh station on I-45 near New Waverly right after getting our class A rig and they could not believe anyone could be so dumb as to stop in a MH.

RE: PPL in Houston TX

PPL y quite a lot.is cut and dried. They are a consignment seller. You can pay them to show that the components work and that is a good policy. You can make any offe you want and they will pass it on to the seller. It is better than buying direct from a seller as you do have some leverage but there are no guarantees. I have bought three units through them and each was satisfactory and less than the sticker price b

RE: Would you buy a Class A with "NO" Slides?

You will tavel a lot more comfortably with the MH than the truck pulling a trailer.m If you set up and stay in one place for weeks then you will want slides.

RE: wal mart situation

Billings, Montana had campground owners get the city to enact an anti Wal-Mart law that was overturned by the new city council just two years ago. Greedy campground owners are responsible for 90% of the anti camping ordinances. Ecoterrorists the rest. We stop at Wal-Marts when driving late on the road. usually around midnight. We are up and gone by 7:00 the next day. Who wants to spend $ 40.00 for six hours rest in a campground parking lot. The CG's are missing out by not having a no frills short term area for travelers. But then I do note that those that do are often criticized on RV Park Reviews for not offering tons of amenities. We do not wnat the RV REsort amenities and the high price tags. Just a placve to rest for a few hours before we hit the road again. Wal-Mart, crazy like a fox, offers that alternative. There are some who feel its their right to put their slides out and levelers down and they do ruin it for the rest of us but 95% of the Wal-Mart boondockers are considerate and thoughtful. AND we do spend a ton of money before heading out each morning.

RE: It Turns over n over, but wont start

Its the secondary coil. Dodge was famous with this problem in the 70's,80's and 90's. Always carry a spare as it goes out unexpectedly in the worst places.

RE: Class A MPG , a more simple solution?

You gain no savings if you take a longer route that allows easier driving and a higher mpg. The additional mileage makes the bottom line the same or higher as you use more fuel driving the longer distance. The only sure fire way to get higher mpg is to slow down. Lots of little things will add up to a small increase in mpg but nothing in the range of 25%. The high cost of the synthetics results in a wash in savings.

RE: interesting news

There is only one little problem. How are the people that lost their jobs here going to pay for a motorhome built in Mexico? Two jobs emptying bed pans is not going to give you the income to afford gas let alone a motorhome. Don't even think of going the retraining route. As stated above, emptying bedpans is not going to pay very well.

RE: Hoover Dam/RV Crossing

You know it is a darn shame that we let the terrorists win the war. I remember crossing over Hoover Dam back in the 80's and the 90's with my family and there was NO inspection stop or delay. You could tour the whole dam and picnic near the parking area. In Denver you could actually tour the mint and see coins being made. You did not have to have a pass issued by your congressman some 6-8 weeks before you got there. You could actually drive an airpoort buy a ticket and get on the plane. And even more important you could stop by the courthouse and walk right in with out having to strip and walk through a metal detector.

RE: Anybody Canceling Trips Because Of Fuel Prices?

It changed ours. The rig is up for sale because of the high gas prices.

RE: Disaster averted... Maybe?

I had the exact same experience at CW. Then when the Mh hits 10 years old they don't want to touch it for anything. What ever you do don't let them give you a safety inspection!~ You would not believe what a death trap your rig has become overnight.

RE: For the folks asking for generator help

We poor owners KNOW that you need the model/type/serial # etc to get a complete answer to generator problems. HOWEVER the darn little paper tag that Onan uses with all that information on it, fades and gets scratched and otherwise made illegible or incomplete. I grew up with the metal tag plate that could be read for thirty years. That being said it does not require all that information to answer 75% of the simple questions. I have heard dealers insist that they have to have all the nomenclature to tell a customer how many amps a 3000 watt generator produces. The more technical questions are a given. Sure you need all that info to differentiate between models but you don't need it to tell a customer when to change oil etc.
